Akua Kepeli

The annual Charitymates Minimate auction returned in 2012 with "Charitymates 6: And Thus The Creatures Played!", a theme of mythological characters & creatures. I chose to create a tiki god for the auction, mostly because I really wanted to sculpt a tiki mask. I named him Akua Kepeli, and is one of the lesser creation gods from Hawaii.

The Recipe

Akui Kepeli is made from a repainted Minimate. His tiki mask was made with a pile of Sculpey and a rough idea. After sculpting that into the mask I wanted, I made a cast, and started making copies with Magic Sculpt. This made a much more durable copy of the mask, and gave me plenty of extras to practice painting wood grain on. The finished mask is attached directly to his chest with Magic Sculpt. Akua Kepeli is wearing a grass skirt made from cut plastic, with a belt made from Magic Sculpt.
